Breaking: Drone Strikes Rock Russia’s Oil Refineries – What You Need to Know
Russia experienced a relentless onslaught of drone strikes targeting its oil refineries and border regions for the second consecutive day. The attacks, which took place on Wednesday, caused widespread concern after a drone crash sparked a fire and inflicted injuries in the Ryazan region.
Reports from authorities showed that various robots were sent off for the time being, with an essential spotlight on the Ukrainian line districts of Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, and Voronezh. Despite efforts to intercept them, some drones managed to evade detection and caused damage, particularly in the Ryazan region where an oil refinery was hit.
Governor Pavel Malkov of the Ryazan region confirmed the drone strike on the oil refinery through Telegram, expressing grave concern for the injuries sustained. The situation escalated as a fire broke out at the refinery, prompting a swift response from rescue services.
Meanwhile, in another incident near Saint Petersburg in northwest Russia, a drone targeting an oil refinery in the Leningrad region was successfully neutralized, with no damage or casualties reported, according to Alexander Drozdenko, the regional governor.
Over in the Voronezh region, more than 30 drones were intercepted, resulting in minor damage, as reported by regional governor Alexander Gussev. Similarly, in Belgorod, six drones were brought down, causing disruptions to electrical lines and subsequent power outages, as per governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
Additional drone interceptions occurred over the Bryansk and Kursk regions, with eight and four drones respectively downed, although no significant damage was reported by the respective governors via Telegram.
This escalation in drone activity follows a major drone strike by Ukraine the previous day, targeting Russian energy infrastructure. Among the targets were one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, situated approximately 800 kilometers from the border. The strikes had a significant impact, with an oil refinery near Nizhny Novgorod and a fuel depot in Oryol being hit, resulting in fires, as confirmed by regional authorities.
